Neglected friends

The Pathfinder Society will meet this April in the vaults of the association, albeit a week later than usual. On 17. April 2024 at 17:30 until approx. 23:00 we agents will go on another adventure. It will be the adventure 5-07: Seewer Dragon Crisis and will be played in Swiss German (or in standard German if this works better for individual players).

Some time ago, the Seewer Dragons became allies of the Pathfinder Society. But unfortunately, the Society failed to fulfill their obligations due to adverse circumstances – and now Chief Yiddlepode is reminding them to keep their end of the bargain.

For the goblin tribe is not only struggling with attacks on their tribal territory in the sewers beneath the streets of Absolom. There is also a growing number of voices within the tribe who believe that Chief Yiddlepode is no longer acceptable and are taking matters into their own hands.

Will the Society’s agents manage to restore the trust of the Seewer Dragons and help the tribe?

The adventure is suitable for characters of levels 1-4. It is also open to new players who do not yet have any role-playing experience and/or are not yet familiar with the Pathfinder system in its 2nd edition.

The Mists of Ravenloft await you!

Welcome, Adventurer!

For the second time as a GM, I am setting out on the paths through the cursed realms of Barovia – the domain of Count Strahd von Zarovich.

As an experienced game master I offer you the epic campaign Curse of Strahd for Dungeons & Dragons 5e. Experience:

  • A captivating adventure – The technical refinements of the KuL room bring the Count’s dark realm to (un)life around you.
  • Multifaceted role-play – Explore the secrets and agendas of diverse characters to drag enemies into the light and find allies in the darkness.
  • Tactical battles – KuL’s battle screens challenge your strategic skills in the fight against the dark hordes.

Are you ready to accept your fate and face the horror? Then join me and venture into the shadows of Curse of Strahd. But be warned – many have already fallen victim to the curse of Strahd in the Land of Lost Souls…

Organisation

Frequency and game days: On 2-3 Tuesday or Wednesday evenings per month we make the streets of Barovia a little safer.

Costs: This paid campaign costs CHF 50 per player per session. This includes my session preparation, the actual playing time and the contribution to the KuL rent.
The price is too high for you? Let me know!

Players: Whether newcomer or veteran; all are welcome in the Land of the Prince. The campaign offers space for 4-5 players.

Language: The campaign can be held in German or English. Please let me know your language preferences and options.

Update 22.3.: Up until now there are two players who both prefer Tuesdays and German as game-dates and -language.

Outline

We will start with an (unpaid) session 0, where we will get to know each other, clarify expectations and boundaries and create your characters. This will probably take place at the end of April.

After that we will start with the first adventure, which will keep us busy for 2-3 evenings. You can get to know me as GM and then decide whether we will face the first act of the campaign together.

The campaign is divided into acts, which allows us to decide after each act how to continue, to welcome new warriors to Barovia or to say goodbye to old adventurers.

Who is the GM?

Hi, I’m Tim. In addition to my work in nursing and my Kung Fu training, I love playing and running PnP roleplaying games. In the last few years I’ve run three multi-year campaigns, including Curse of Strahd, as well as one with up to 8 players.

I founded the Arcanor community campaign, wrote my own adventures, introduced newcomers to the hobby at Herofest and set up the KuL room – not least so I had somewhere to put all my books on the subject.

I really enjoy sharing my passion for role-playing games with others and I’m looking forward to many more exciting adventures in the future. But even before I became a GM, I was very involved in a DSA-campaign and learnt a lot in the process.

Now I’m really looking forward to a new chapter with you!

You can find out more about me here.

Disclaimer

Curse of Strahd is a horror campaign and includes topics such as physical, psychological and sexualised violence and violence against children. We can discuss our boundaries and the use of safety tools, such as the X-card, at Session 0.

Master’s Talk March ’24

If the terms “action adjudication”, “railroad” and “three-clue-rule” make you look perplexed, if you are interested in the delicate art of game mastery (see also What is Pen & Paper?) or if you have already honed it to near perfection, then the Master’s Talk is the perfect event for you!

With the Master’s Talk, we have created a vessel where game masters can exchange ideas about battlemap design, discuss questions about past game sessions, or share their experiences.

This Master’s Talk will be held on Thursday, March 14th from 6 p.m. to approximately 8:30 p.m. in the KuL-Room. Be there!
The Master’s Talk will be held in English.

To make the Master’s Talk a little different from a loose meeting over a cold drink, we have come up with some topics that we would like to discuss. There will be short inputs on various topics prepared by some of the game masters to start a discussion. Because we have so many questions for our fellow game leaders and hope others have as many.

1. topic: Adversary Rosters

Does this ever happen to you? Your players pick apart your carefully planned opposition room by room, trivialising a tough enemy outpost? Or you’re faced with an opposition compound with dozens of NPCs to control, with no way to focus on anything else? If you want the simplest and most fun tool to turn your dour dungeons into lively locales, Nino has got the tool for you: Adversary Rosters!

2. topic: Improv

Not all characters can be worked out in advance – some are created spontaneously. And not every GM has attended drama school. Em shows us tips and ideas on how to breathe life into characters spontaneously.

Past Talks

No Pathfinder Society session in March

Unfortunately there will be no Pathfinder Society in March. Our GM is sadly unable to run due to medical reasons. By April, however, he should be fit enough to go on a new mission with interested pathfinder agents.

Speaking of interested: If you are interested in offering Pathfinder Society sessions in the vaults of our club (or at other locations in Bern or the surrounding area), please get in touch with Alain aka Jarekk82. The best way to reach him is via Discord (username is jarekk82).

For example, he can show you how to prepare sessions, give you access to official Society adventures and – if you want – take part in your (first) sessions. For example, you can ask him about rules uncertainties during the adventure.

System of the Month March: W10+ System

Spring awakening… But not only does the vegetation awaken from hibernation and the migratory birds return, no, the Rûhkka also swarm out, far more numerous than in previous years. Are they really not a threat?

The home-made ruleset W10+ System is less suited to a strategic-tactical and more to a cinematic-narrative style of play. A selection of pre-made characters, scaled down for a convention or one-shot, are available to give you a taste of my own personal take on a role-playing game and a taste of my world of Ahbaron.

Interested? Then register now via info@kul-verein.ch. Registration is possible until 13.03.2024 – after that the game will be published on Meetup.

– Andrea
