Master’s Talk in July

The Master’s Talk will be held in English.

If the terms “action adjudication”, “railroad” and “three-clue-rule” make you look perplexed, if you are interested in the delicate art of game mastery (see also What is Pen & Paper?) or if you have already honed it to near perfection, then the Master’s Talk is the perfect event for you!

With the Master’s Talk, we have created a vessel where game masters can exchange ideas about battlemap design, discuss questions about past game sessions, or share their experiences.

The second Master’s Talk will be held on Thursday, July 13 from 6 p.m. to approximately 8:30 p.m. in the KuL-Room. Be there!

To make the Master’s Talk a little different from a loose meeting over a cold drink, we have come up with some topics that we would like to discuss. There will be short inputs on various topics prepared by some of the KuL game masters to start a discussion. Because we have so many questions for our fellow game leaders and hope others have as many.

1. topic: Music

What possibilities are there to use music in role-playing and how do you influence the mood with it? What works best and how does it work technically? Listen to Mario‘s thoughts and join the discussion!

2. topic: RPG Systems

Discuss the history of RPG systems with a focus on OSR (Old School Renaissance) and new old systems with Daniele. What are your favorites and what are you looking for in these systems?

We look forward to the Master’s Talk and are eager to hear how other game masters approach this exciting and fulfilling role.

KuL-Room updates!

It’s been quite a while since we reported what’s going on in the room. Of course, we always tell it at the KuL Höck, but not all of them are there – and not every change deserves its own post, like the fantastic archway! So here is a non-exhaustive list:

A new diorama presents the Minis. A detailed craft report will follow.

A tailor’s dummy including armor now decorates the room at the head end – the armor is still being completed.

The wall right next to the entrance was too empty. A picture now decorates this area. If someone wants to make something nicer here, that is of course no problem!

The refrigerator is now tidy and the drinks are better visible.

  • Permanently installed laptop with general account, which you can use when leading! Is automatically connected to both screens and the sound system.
  • More power strips for free use
  • More terrain parts
  • New minis (various monsters and heroes)
  • Fan for the hot days
  • New books and games
  • New lamps are installed
  • The snacks drawer is always well stocked (almost too well!)
  • New manuals are distributed in the room

… and much more!

Want to support projects like these and more? Then donate now for the room or a specific project. Of course you can also become a member and benefit from some advantages 😉

KuL-News May & Club Membership

Despite Tim’s absence, several events took place in May. The community campaign Arcanor was continued on two game days and the Master’s Talk took place in its second edition. At OSM the world of Numenéra was explored and we were allowed to get to know the Cypher System. Last but not least, the room has been rented out to external groups a couple of times.

Club membership now possible

At the first regular general meeting some things were discussed and decided. Now you can become a member which brings some advantages:

  • Cheaper room rent (CHF 50 instead of CHF 60)
  • cheaper rent of the adjoining meeting room
  • Access to closed events
  • Priority at public events
  • Borrow books and games
  • Support a great cause

The membership costs CHF 60.- per year (only CHF 5.- per month!) – if you join during the year you will not pay the full amount.

You can find everything else in the meeting protocol:

Coming soon events!

1. topic: Traps

How do you use traps correctly so that they are fun? How should players be made aware of them (or not) and how deadly should they be? Listen to Tim’s thoughts on this and join the discussion!

2. topic: open

The second topic is still open. Would you like to present a topic? This can be a whole lecture or just a specific question. Then get in touch with us!

If there is no second topic we will probably grab something from this list:

  • Riddles
  • Difference of different systems
  • Music and how to use it
  • How to start a campaign
  • Notes – how to make them right
  • Session recaps
  • Action economy

We look forward to the Master’s Talk and are eager to hear how other game masters approach this exciting and fulfilling role.

1. topic: How to make Battlemaps

Example of a battlemap

Especially in DnD, but also in other systems, battlemaps, the map on which your minis are placed, are an integral part of a battle. But where do you find great maps or how do you create them yourself? And how do you make them interesting? Mario does the research and shares the results with you!

2. topic: open

“How to take notes in a smart way – or how to take notes, organize and look them up in future session without making a huge mess!” Discuss with Fiona the best ways to never lose track of your groups spontanious shenanigans.
