System of the Month December: Adventures in Ankh-Morpork

In a distant and second-hand set of dimensions, in an astral plane that was never meant to fly, the curling star-mists
waver and part… See…

Great A’Tuin the Turtle comes, swimming slowly through the interstellar gulf, hydrogen frost on his ponderous limbs, his huge and ancient shell pocked with meteor craters. Through sea-sized eyes that are crusted with rheum and asteroid dust He stares fixedly at the Destination.

In a brain bigger than a city, with geological slowness, He thinks only of the Weight.

Most of the weight is of course accounted for by the four giant elephants upon whose broad and star-tanned shoulders the disc of the World rests, garlanded by the long waterfall at its vast circumference and domed by the baby-blue vault of Heaven.

The Colour of Magic

Welcome to Terry Pratchett’s Discworld RPG: Adventures in Ank-Morpork. The Modiphius system will be available on Kickstarter soon, but the quickstarter is already available!

We are playing the mystery intro adventure “Up in Smoke”. You embody up to 5 members of the Ankh-Morpork City Guard (pre-made characters) and have been sent out to investigate the raid on the Sunshine Home for Sick Dragons. For those in the know: We are playing around the time of Thud!.

The rules are very simple and focus heavily on role-playing. There is little fighting (and only with normal skill tests – there is no weapon damage or similar) and the focus is entirely on immersing yourself in the bizarre world of Terry Pratchett – but you don’t have to know it to have fun!

TLDR: 3-5 players, in German, pre-made characters, on December 10th and if necessary on December 19th. Please only register if you can play on both dates.

The game will take place on Tuesday, December 10 and Thursday, December 19 from 18:00.

System of the Month September: Kids on Bikes

You are teenagers in the small, 80’s inspired town Arcadia. Equipped with nothing but your wits, gadgets and bikes of course, you’ll have to be creative to solve a mystery that has been plaguing your neighbourhood. But don’t worry though, you wont have to do it alone.

Kids on Bikes is a role-playing game played by 3 to 5 people and me, the GM. If you’ve seen Stranger Things or played Life is Strange, you know what you are in for. Because you are playing such young characters, violence will be a last resort – if you play to your strengths and work as a team, you might not need it at all. Role-play and improvisation is very important in this game, as there will be little combat.

GM Cedric will be playing the one-shot adventure Of Kids on Bikes over the course of 4 hours with you. This game is appropriate for players ages 12+. Character creation is handled at the table but requires some preparation at home. We will be role-playing in English.

System of the Month June: Mausritter

Sadly/Gladly both games have been filled!

It’s a huge and dangerous world out there. It does not look kindly on a small mouse like you. But if you are very brave and very clever (and just a bit lucky), you might be able to survive. And if you survive long enough, you might even become a hero amongst mice.

Mausritter is a role-playing game for up to 5 people. You will adventure as a small mouse in a large world, where your wits are more important than your weapons. Keep your weapons at the ready, though, because danger lurks around every root, burrow, and clearing.

GM Kieran will be playing the one-shot adventure Of Mice and Milk over the course of 3-4 hours with you. This game is appropriate for players ages 12+. Character creation is quick and easy; we will handle it at the table.

Attention: possible mentions or descriptions of violence, animal harm, starvation, spiders, foul language, alcohol, smoking

System of the Month July: EAT THE REICH

THE YEAR IS 1943. EUROPE IS IN FLAMES.

YOU ARE A UNIT OF CRACK VAMPIRE COMMANDOS WITH A SINGLE OBJECTIVE:
DRINK ALL OF ADOLF HITLER’S BLOOD AND FATALLY DESTABILISE THE NAZI WAR MACHINE

Welcome to EAT THE REICH where you are a vampire commando telling over-the-top stories of action, ultraviolence, carnage and supernatural mayhem. You like movies like Iron Sky, Inglorious Basterds, Mad Heidi or Dead Snow? Then bring your best one-liners and fight your way through Nazi-occupied Paris to kill Hitler!

How do you play?

4-6 players choose one of six pre-made vampires with special abilities. During your turn, you roll the dice individually to decide how many successes you want to invest in your common goal, or whether you would rather collect blood. Everything else is done by description – you have full control over your, but also all the no-name characters around you.

Please note: This game is all about carnage and describing it. You yourself are a monster and even innocents could get hurt. Clichés are omnipresent.
Due to the background, racism and fascism will play a role, but only subordinately. There are no comments/insults towards or among the players.

Master’s Talk April ’24

If the terms “action adjudication”, “railroad” and “three-clue-rule” make you look perplexed, if you are interested in the delicate art of game mastery (see also What is Pen & Paper?) or if you have already honed it to near perfection, then the Master’s Talk is the perfect event for you!

With the Master’s Talk, we have created a vessel where game masters can exchange ideas about battlemap design, discuss questions about past game sessions, or share their experiences.

This Master’s Talk will be held on Monday, March 22th from 6 p.m. to approximately 8:30 p.m. in the KuL-Room. Be there!
The Master’s Talk will be held in English.

To make the Master’s Talk a little different from a loose meeting over a cold drink, we have come up with some topics that we would like to discuss. There will be short inputs on various topics prepared by some of the game masters to start a discussion. Because we have so many questions for our fellow game leaders and hope others have as many.

1. topic: Character creation

Different characters require an equally different way of creating them. And how do you breathe life into the character afterwards? Andrea prepares the topic for us in detail and then discusses the challenges of character creation with us.

2. topic: tba
