Mothership – In space, no one can hear you break the rules

Mothership is an old-school renaissance (OSR) style science fiction horror role-playing game. Imagine the claustrophobic isolation of Alien, the madness of Event Horizon, or the industrial decay of Dead Space as you play the crew of a spaceship or research station. You slip into the roles of factory workers, scientists, and androids trying to survive in a cold, indifferent universe.

The system is extremely deadly and uses an intuitive W100 system. It’s not about being a hero, but about surviving the next disaster long enough to maybe reach a shore leave.

Important points:

  • Characters: Ready-made characters will be provided or created together at the beginning of the session, unless the game master informs you otherwise in advance.
  • Stress & Panic: We will learn together how the system simulates psychological stress. Every wrong decision increases your stress until a critical moment triggers the dreaded Panic Check.
  • Survival (or failure) together: We will play a short scenario to test the mechanics on the fly. In Mothership, rules are tools for creating tension—not for preventing death.
  • Dates: You can participate in one or more sessions. If there are spots available, you are welcome to participate in more than one.
  • Number of players: We usually aim for 4-6 players per session, but feel free to ask your game master.

System of the Month February: Nimble 2e

Nimble 2e is a fast-paced, tactical, and fully 5e-compatible TTRPG designed for groups who consider cumbersome and complicated rules a waste of time. It combines the best elements of the most popular role-playing games to finally eliminate the problem of endless battles. The system gives players and game masters more interesting decisions to make, reduces waiting times, and puts the focus back on experiencing epic stories.

Nimble 2e originally started as a “hack” in the dark corners of the role-playing community to break the inertia of traditional combat and shift the focus to experiencing stories.

Some claim the system is so efficient that it blurs the line between strategy and pure intuition, while skeptics believe that the system’s deadly speed was only made possible by a pact with the dice gods!

KuL Quest: A Fools Errand

The list of unplayed games is ever-growing, and sometimes you just need a fixed date to finally sit down and learn one. Or perhaps you’d like to learn a system together with others — in an environment where no one is expected to know it, and everyone figures things out as they go.

That’s the idea behind this KuL-Quest.

We’ll go through the rules, build characters and a world, and then try out a few scenes. Where possible, some rules and documents will be shared beforehand. The organizer does not necessarily know the rules by heart; this format is meant to provide a space where struggles, questions, and time spent looking up rules are all part of the experience.
It’s also an opportunity to try DMing the system if someone of the group wants to.

In short: a learning-by-doing approach.

On the 27.12.2025 we’ll do just that with the system ‘A Fools Errand’
We’ll meet at 14:00 and work on the game. Breaks and dinner will be planned together.

What is A Fools Errand?

You are Fools on a journey to see the World.
A Fool’s Errand is a storytelling roleplaying game about grappling with godhood and keeping the gods in check. Use tarot cards to add complications and resolve obstacles as you explore the 5th Collide and the Dream & Digital Networks.

Tell an expansive science fantasy story both in the waking world and the surrealistic subconscious realms. Contend with calamity and decide whether to indulge or deny this world’s gods: the Major Arcana.

Will you agree with Death’s stance on immortality?
Will you deny Justice’s rigid punishments?
Will you indulge the Tower’s chaotic upheaval?

Your choices will influence the gods’ Calamities. But at the end of it all, you are the Fool – the one Major Arcana that carries infinite potential.

So, make your Fools: Android, Human, or somewhere in between. Tether these Fools to the Major Arcana with thematic motivations. Build the biggest Calamity in this world’s history. Prepare to confront your own Big Oops.

KuL-Quest: Technoir

Technoir:
high-tech, hard-boiled roleplaying
Playing it safe isn’t working anymore; you’re not going to get out of this clean. You have illicit tech and the talent to use it. Time to go shake the city and see what falls out. You’ll get hurt, sure, but what kind of pain will you deal out?

You play protagonists like cyber-tweaked couriers, hard-nosed investigators, and drugged-out hackers making opportunities for themselves in a despairing world. Using a rules-light system with enough intricacies to spark new fires of hardboiled crime novels and cyberpunk science fiction, Technoir lets you coax, hack, fight, prowl, and shoot your way through a dark future.

Technoir uses a simple core mechanic in which verbs are used to push adjectives onto characters.(For example, you might use your character’s Hack verb to push the adjective “exploited” onto a gunrunner’s security system).

For those of you unfamiliar with the system, I will run through character creation and basic examples for the first half hour.

The goal is to play within the same story for all four sessions, so players are encouraged to show up for most, if not all sessions, if they can.

System of the Month January: Green Oaks

Green Oaks is a role-playing game where each player takes on the role of an Elder living in Green Oaks, a charming, greenery surrounded structure. Rumors swirl that great treasures are hidden in its basement, though some believe the entire building is actually an alien base conducting experiments on its elderly residents. Local youths whisper that the structure is built over an ancient Native American cemetery, while others say it’s the very mouth of Hell.
